Giving thanks can feel isolating: Taking care of yourself and teaching family members how to help

infertility during the holidays. help for infertility in Philadelphia, PA.The holidays are generally filled with fun, family gatherings, and a lot of socializing, and for couples who struggle with infertility, this can be a very difficult time.

Holidays and their celebrations and activities mostly center around children, which can make infertility during the holidays seem like a lot more to cope with. But by searching out activities in your area that cater to your interests,  you can attend various activities that are adult centered, where you and your partner can have a good time, or find ways to bond with family that don’t cause extra pain.

By planning ahead and making good use of your support system, you can begin to look forward to the festive season without any anxiety.

Inquisitive family members and infertility during the holidays

If the emotions surrounding infertility during the holidays weren’t raw enough, you may be anxious about being asked some dreaded questions by friends and family.

Attending support groups and individual or couples counseling may prepare you to answer those uncomfortable questions. Sometimes the best response is to have an answer ready for them, and sometimes the best response is to brush off the conversation and continue your celebration. You can learn what works for you.

Your emotions are real and normal

It can be challenging to be surrounded by fertile friends or family members who are just bursting to make their pregnancy announcements when the whole family is together. Knowing that it is ok and normal to feel a myriad of emotions when dealing with infertility during the holiday season is also a helpful tool in making it easier to cope.
